(2 hours per session, 18 sessions total)
We are proud to announce the SAT Verbal Pre-Prep class!
It’s a fun and intense program that will tackle weaknesses that
must be addressed before learning technique to master the SAT. We are
so excited about it because there is nothing like it out there, anywhere
and it is going to give such a strong foundation for the SAT course
technique these kids who take the pre -prep class are surely going to
be top scorers.
We are focusing on CLOSE READING (dissecting passages sentence by sentence). The
kids will work on difficult readings of all types (science, history,
narrative, literary) They will learn to read difficult passages similiar
to (and from) the college board SAT presents by seeing tone, style,
clues, person, tricks, punctuation, vocabulary etc. They will analyze
as a class in group discussions led by an intelligent and enthusiastic
teacher, they will analyze additional essays at home and present their
homework in front of the class each session in a fun, exciting and emphatic
way. We will then add essay writing to coincide with these projects
as they will learn different kinds of writing tech by mimicking the
tones and styles of the essays they analyzed prior.
It will revolve around this structure continually-In class analysis,
group discussions, at home analysis, class presentations, writing exercises.
After their reading comprehension levels rise and they are skilled at
analysis and literary structures, We will add the foundations of grammar
as well.
This class will help immensely for the SAT but also for any level English
class. It is not for the remedial, below average or overly shy student.
Serious students only as it will move quickly and require student input
and student teacher relationships. They will be an important part of
the process while learning reading skills and creating personal voices
and styles in their own writing.
Based on our years of SAT teaching experience, we foresee this as being
one of our FLAGSHIP courses where students come from all over to attend.
The material will consist of handouts non SAT and SAT. No SAT technique,
that will be the course they take after this one.
